The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is seeking a new full-time Publications Coordinator. The Publications Coordinator is responsible for soliciting, coordinating, and editing all submissions for NAEA News, the association's member-only publication that is issued five times a year.
The Publications Coordinator works closely with the Publications Team to produce the Association's flagship periodicals, books, and other special publications including the annual convention program and resource catalog.
The Publications Coordinator also assists with the association's marketing activities by proofreading and offering content edits.
With other Publications staff, edit and/or proofread copy for bi-monthly, quarterly, and yearly periodicals, as well as for books as time allows. Proofread additional NAEA projects and special publications.
Lead production of NAEA News, including author correspondence, editing, and preparation for production. Maintain contact with 30 columnists for deadlines, submissions, and masthead updates for five yearly issues. Interact with other departments for better use of News to support initiatives.
Maintain Google Doc of publication status with input from other Publication staff.
Enforce editorial standards consistent with NAEA Publications Style Guide and the current edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
In cooperation with Publication Manager, verify image permissions and usage by checking periodical submissions in Editorial Manager program.
Work with Publications Manager and/or graphic designer to proof layouts of periodicals and books from designers or publishers.
Edit, proof, and/or fact-check Association e-blasts, advertisements, website text, and other promotional materials as needed.
Perform research in response to publication inquiries from authors, editors, and members as needed.
Assist in marketing of publication research database and special issues.
Maintain physical archives of periodicals for archival binding.
BA in Communications, Marketing, Publishing, and/or related degree.
Minimum 5 years of professional experience, working in a nonprofit environment preferred. At least 3 years of direct publications experience, association experience helpful.
Copyediting and proofreading experience is required. Familiarity with APA Style Manual preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, including Word tracked changes and PDF editing tools.
Ability to organize, write, and coordinate communications to ensure production schedules are met.
Ability to collaborate and build internal partnerships around common goals, working in a cross-team environment.
Ability to schedule and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, marketing, and organizational skills.
Eye for detail a must!
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Mac, and database management skills a plus.
Experience with Editorial Manager or similar online submission systems a plus.
