The Association of the United States Army (www.ausa.org) is seeking a dynamic accounting and finance professional for the position of Controller. Reporting to the V.P. of Finance and Administration, the Controller will have responsibility for all financial accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, auditing, budgeting, financial forecasting, and tax compliance for our 86-person organization.
Headquartered in Arlington, VA, AUSA is the Army’s professional association, the voice for the Army on Capitol Hill, and offers support for soldiers and their families. AUSA currently has an annual budget of $30 Million.
Major Duties include:
Leading the finance and accounting function and providing direction to a staff of 5 accounting professionals, ensuring that AUSA’s accounting is consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
Safeguarding assets and assuring accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments.
Acting as a financial and strategic thought partner to the organization’s executive team.
Developing, improving, and issuing timely monthly financial records for the President/CEO and Finance Committee.
Overseeing audit, 990 prep, and tax compliance.
Managing and directing AUSA’s investment portfolio and establishing major financial objectives and policies for the Association.
Forecasting and monitoring cash balances to maximize investment opportunities.
Evaluating financial and accounting systems to increase efficiency and improve decision making information.
Developing budgets and measuring actual performance against operating budget. Providing budgeting and business partner support to the leaders throughout the organization.
Managing capital budget and cash flow, ensuring ample cash reserves are available for all AUSA activities and special projects.
Overseeing financing arrangements for unique, large-scale AUSA projects involving significant risk assessment and risk management.
Fully comprehending AUSA’s business model, researching and resolving issues.
Providing financial analysis tools to evaluate new ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, and product costing when necessary.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Degree in accounting, finance, or business required (CPA required).
Strong experience in financial accounting and budgeting in a similar organization with focus on internal controls. Must be a clear role model for financial ethics.
Five or more years’ experience in accounting, budgeting and financial analysis.
Expert knowledge of financial systems and software such as Microsoft Dynamics and knowledge of association management systems preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex data, findings and ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
Strong technical skills and ability to independently review and provide timely and accurate financial reporting. Analytical with the desire to take initiative to provide resolutions and streamline processes.
Must have a strong desire to lead, stimulate and coach small team efforts within finance and accounting, and also within ad hoc cross-functional teams.
Ability to forecast, drive strong cash flows, and identify opportunities to grow revenues and margins.
Meticulous, dedicated and self-motivated.
