We seek a Senior Vice President for Public Policy to be responsible for developing and leading the overall strategy for public policy and grassroots advocacy. This includes development of LeadingAge’s public policy agenda and overseeing the successful execution of our regulatory agenda. This individual oversees the development of public policy positions based on the Board approved public policy agenda and collaborates with state partners to employ strategies to advance LeadingAge’s policy agenda through Congress and the Executive Branch. The Senior Vice President ensures thoughtful analysis of policy options and direction and activates the membership to achieve the LeadingAge agenda through grassroots efforts. This individual exercises a leadership role on senior staff and among the membership constituencies of the Association, including the Executive Forum and the Policy Congress. The Senior Vice President is a principal spokesperson for the Association’s public policy positions and is a representative of the policy agenda to other organizations and coalitions concerned with policy issues affecting the LeadingAge membership. The Senior Vice President models LeadingAge’s core values in every endeavor.
The position requires a Master’s degree or advanced degree in public administration, public health, law, nursing or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Plus, a minimum of 15 years of experience working in one of the following areas, or a combination of experience in these areas: provider organization; university; congressional office/committee; federal agency; government affairs department of a public interest group; membership or trade association. Professional experience related to aging, long-term care, housing, and health care financing is essential.
Other requirements include knowledge of federal regulatory processes; broad understanding of legal and regulatory issues affecting the range of providers of long term services and supports; and knowledge of and experience with employing grassroots as a strategic asset. Demonstrated leadership skills to include the ability to lead, mentor and direct staff to accomplish division and organizational goals; highly effective communications and presentation skills to include the ability to make effective and persuasive speeches to members, senior government officials, board members, and the public. Must be able to travel overnight to meetings and conferences both locally and nationally.
