Scope: CIPE is seeking a full-time, Washington, DC-based Chambers & Associations Specialist. This position is responsible for advising and supporting organizational development and training activities intended for business associations, chambers of commerce, and other non-profit organizations; and will assist in delivering training and technical assistance in cooperation with CIPE program managers. The candidate must be able to handle multiple detail-oriented tasks with limited supervision, have excellent writing and communications skills, demonstrate interest in, and work well in a team. Candidates should be enthusiastic about the role the private sector plays generally in democratic governance.
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design and improve tools, training content, and curricula for organizational development as well as other training areas, with attention to areas such as strategic planning, governance, financial management, member services, organizational communications, and policy advocacy
Advise program managers on design and implementation of organizational development activities as well as training needs and solutions
Assist as needed in implementing workshops, technical assistance, and other capacity building activities, in cooperation with program managers and consultants
Identify areas for continuous improvement in technical assistance and training, and make recommendations to program staff
Coordinate an internal community of practice on association development
Help identify and formulate new project concepts and develop funding proposals, including project narratives and budgets
Monitor current trends and practices and scout experts in the associations field
Handle project administration, including invoices, contracts, and payment requests as needed
Adhere to appropriate CIPE, NED and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce policies and procedures
5+ years professional experience with proven track record in strengthening organizations and/or facilitating professional development
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in one of the following fields preferred: organizational development, social science, business, public policy, or related fields
Experience working in business associations or chambers of commerce preferred
Strong grasp of non-profit management methods and training methods
Strong facilitation and presentation skills
International experience preferred
Foreign language ability helpful but not required
Excellent English-language writing skills, as evidenced by writing samples (see below).
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; team orientation
Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong project management skills preferred
Good financial acumen and ability to develop, manage and monitor project budgets
Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Ability to travel internationally as required by project activities
Strong IT Skills in MS Office, specifically MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
