The Senior Director of Membership is responsible for the planning, oversight, organization, and management of the membership department in meeting or exceeding growth and retention goals to achieve objectives specified in APIC’s strategic plan. The Senior Director of Membership leads and directs the collaborative efforts of the membership department to satisfy internal and external needs of the organization, with a focus on continually improving process performance. This position is responsible for maintaining a high degree of internal and external customer service. The Senior Director of Membership is a member of APIC’s Senior Leadership team and adheres to APIC’s Core Values: Agility, Innovative Leadership, Integrity, Stewardship, and Teamwork.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop interactive long- and short-term plans to meet APIC’s current and anticipated service needs.
Define and/or develop organizational processes and policies using best practices guidelines as well as providing members and users with excellent service.
Perform and update needs analysis working collaboratively with other senior staff members.
Manage effective membership growth and retention programs.
Work with other senior staff members to develop membership programs to target new markets including outsourced telemarketing drives, developing acquisition programs, and encouraging chapter growth and development.
Support APIC’s Member Services Committee.
Manage APIC’s awards programs and support APIC’s Nominating and Awards Committee by conducting the annual awards program and Awards Ceremony, promoting volunteer opportunities, and creating programs to foster leadership development within APIC.
Support and manage relationships with the chapters, sections, and focus groups, as well as develop new programs to attract and retain more APIC members.
Direct the organization of annual Chapter Officers’ Meetings, conference calls, and the review of chapter bylaws and the Chapter Organizational Handbook.
Manage the staff of the membership department, fostering an environment of high accountability and customer focus.
Develop and monitor the membership department budgets and take appropriate action to achieve strategic priorities and budget goals.
Serve as a member of the APIC senior management team to develop strategic plans, department budgets, address emerging issues affecting the association’s mission, and to report to the APIC board of directors on the department’s performance.

Ability to work with and maintain the confidentiality of data and information
Ability to relate well to different people from varied backgrounds and in different situations
Results orientated and able to work at a fast pace and meet critical deadlines
Willingness and ability to travel approximately up to 10%
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Master’s degree and/or CAE preferred
Seven to ten years of experience in membership marketing, association management, and process engineering
Experience with association databases and software (iMIS or equivalent preferred) or a commensurate combination of education and experience
Experience with chapter online platforms
