What the Marketing Program Manager does
The Marketing Program Manager plays an essential role in the creation, execution and management of marketing plans designed to expand awareness and participation in the American Geophysical Union’s programs that support researchers in the Earth and space sciences.
Using a deep understanding of marketing strategy and tactics, the Marketing Program Manager develops strategic marketing/communications plans informing the broader Earth and space science community, AGU members, and the general public about a variety of programs and issues related to the organization’s strategic goals.
Reporting to the Manager, Marketing, the Program Manager demonstrates high degree of collaboration with partners in departments across AGU, as well as the design team and fellow Marketing Team members.
Works closely with subject matter experts to create data-driven strategic marketing/communication plans in collaboration with members of the strategic communications group. Plans’ development will focus on key messages, audience analysis, product positioning, benefit analysis, and tactical analysis.
Develops marketing tactics focused on marketing automation/lead generation and scoring that will improve audience experience increase audience awareness.
Maintains awareness of the latest trends in marketing and online/digital technologies to improve implementation of marketing tactics for AGU overall.
Implements strategic marketing/communications plans and tactics via email marketing, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), SiteCore/Wordpress, and collateral development in coordination with other members of the Marketing and Strategic Communications teams.
Communicates with attendees (scientists, members, and other key stakeholders) and represents the organization at scientific conferences and exhibits.
Writes copy for and creates campaigns for programs within his/her portfolio.

What the Marketing Program Manager brings to the team
6+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, or a related field; or equivalent education and work experience.
Experience in a membership association/not-for-profit and/or scientific or technical organization preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs/projects, both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, as well as multi-task and set priorities in an agile manner to address constantly evolving needs/requirements.
Exceptional project management, analytical, research, writing, organizational, and communications skills. Experience with agile development practices is a plus.
Should have experience with a variety of communications channels, including websites, e-newsletters, and social media.
Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources and develop clear, concise messages that support and contribute to the organization’s strategic goals.
Ability to follow through on commitments and accept ownership of responsibilities and with utmost professionalism.
Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / competing priorities / requirements for accuracy and quality and/or fast pace.
Knowledge of standard software programs, including Microsoft Office. Must be able to learn and effectively use: a Web content management system (experience with SiteCore preferred), a variety of social media platforms, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube. Basic familiarity with Google Analytics and Hootsuite preferred. Experience using Real Magnet or similar mass-email program a plus; experience with marketing automation preferred.
Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills, and experience in working across multiple teams and balancing multiple priorities.
Ability to exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
