Provides legislative and staff support to the work of the Public Policy Department, as outlined by volunteer leadership and staff. Through a team-oriented approach, the position will support ASAE’s lobbying efforts as well as provide assistance to the grassroots, fundraising and Power of A portfolios.

Advocating for ASAE policy issues on Capitol Hill and before the Executive Branch. Staff person will be registered as a federal lobbyist.
Monitoring association management issues at the state and local level, with particular attention paid to the District of Columbia metro area.
Manage and execute ASAE’s annual legislative fly-in.
Creating content for grassroots communications, especially Inroads, the Power of A site, and advocacy emails.
Assisting as needed with the ASAE Power of A campaign, including staffing the social media needs of the campaign.
Serving as the primary legislative and media research resource for the office.
Conducting background research on assigned issues and policies, including developing materials for use by ASAE staff members to explain and support ASAE official policies and positions on policy issues.
Attending political events as assigned by supervisor.
Staffing the ASAE Public Policy Committee, APAC Committee and other relevant policy committees and task forces.
Assisting in special projects relating to the Public Policy Department.
Assisting in fundraising for APAC and the Power of A Fund, including processing contributions, responding to member inquiries, planning events, maintaining up-to-date records and contact lists and filing political reports as needed.

Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the legislative/regulatory process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Entrepreneurial spirit with strong initiative and follow through.
Synthesize information and write clearly, logically, and persuasively on assigned issues for diverse audiences.
Ability to speak clearly and persuasively on legislative topics or topics related to the ASAE Public Policy Department.
Organizational, planning, and management skills for group meetings.
Must be able to handle multiple activities at the same time, work under several deadlines, prioritize, and function well autonomously and as a self-motivated team member.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database management software.(experience with Office365, Aptify, GovPredict and Cision a plus)
Knowledge of social media tools and best practices.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment.
Physical Demands Ability to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Ability to work before and after hours events on occasion is needed.
Travel Occasional travel is required.
Required Education and Experience While not required, Capitol Hill or campaign experience a plus.
Preferred Education and Experience BS/BA degree in Political Science, Communications or a related field is highly desirable.
