The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management.
The Senior Specialist, Scholarships & Initiatives maintains a detailed understanding of all aspects of the SHRM Foundation’s Scholarships and Awards program and manages all aspects of the application, review, and selection process. The senior specialist interprets and applies scholarship and awards program policies and best practices with regard to applicant eligibility and distribution of scholarship and award funds. Additionally, the position helps implement and manage the logistics for existing and new initiatives and programming. This position is critical to executing a key part of the Foundation’s mission to educate and develop HR professionals and students to make change in their workplaces and in their communities.
Your typical day will include:
Spearheading, implementing, administering, and maintaining the applicant intake process to include selecting, inviting, scheduling judges, administering all scholarships and awards, and the process for distributing awarded funds. Maintaining the database of applicants, working with the legal team to ensure compliance with privacy and consent requirements, and providing reports on applicant activity and awards to SHRM Foundation and SHRM leadership as required.
Developing the business processes and business requirements for scholarship software and collaborating with technology, project managers, and external vendors to implement the systems to support the scholarship and awards program. Managing vendor relationships including.
Collaborating with the marketing team to market scholarships, awards and the Foundation programs and special initiatives. Also collaborating with public and private academic institutions, SHRM chapters and state councils, other associations, membership staff and others to ensure scholarships, awards, programs and initiatives are properly and adequately communicated and promoted.
Providing critical customer service focused communications, including responding to and assisting with applicants, school administrators, sponsors, and scholarship and award recipients.
Partnering with the finance department to ensure proper financial record keeping on scholarships and awards budgets. This includes maintaining oversight of documents, auditable records, and electronic data in accordance with established policy and procedure.
Staying abreast of current trends and regulations for scholarships and awards and provides recommendations on best practices, contributing to the development of new and enhanced strategies and operational procedures that continue to build the profile of the scholarship and awards program and support the vision and mission of the Foundation.
Supporting the development activities with scholarship donor stewardship and fiscally responsible administration of scholarship and awards funds.
Develop and maintaining processes to capture and report on key performance indicators for scholarship, awards, program and initiatives.
Representing the Foundation with internal and external researchers, speakers, and vendors to execute the Foundation programs, publications, events, etc. when required.
THESE ARE THE SKILLS YOU WILL NEED IN YOUR TOOLBOX:
Bachelors degree in education administration, non-profit management, business, social sciences or a related field.
7 years of experience in a non-profit organization, including a minimum of 3 years administering scholarship and awards programs
Strong customer service focus with excellent interpersonal skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
Ability to maintain confidentiality of applicant and work records. Impeccable integrity and standards
Understanding of scholarship and awards program evaluation methods and performance metrics
Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
