The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS)http://www.acjs.org seeks a professional, service-oriented, energetic, self-motivated, responsible, and dependable Assistant Association Manager to join an established vibrant nonprofit membership organization that fosters professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. It is expected that the successful applicant will transition into the position of Association Manager within a year or less.
ACJS promotes criminal justice education, research, and policy analysis within the discipline of criminal justice for both educators and practitioners. The Executive Board is a volunteer working Board elected from and by the membership of the Academy. The Board is the policymaking body and determines the vision and mission of the organization. The Association Manager and Assistant Association Manager serve as ex-officio members of the Board and report directly to the Executive Director. Together the Executive Director, Association Manager, and Assistant Association Manager are responsible for implementation of Board initiatives.
Both the Association Manager and Assistant Association Manager are responsible for day-to-day operation and management of the organization, implementation of the Annual Meeting of ACJS, general membership services, and administrative functions. The Association Manager and Assistant Association Manager will interact with and be responsive to all levels of the organization as well as outside vendors.
While a bachelor's degree is preferred for this position, it is not required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan, coordinate, and oversee the operation of the Annual Meeting. Prepare Annual Meeting program, mobile app, event registration sites, etc. Work with President, Executive Director, Program Chair, and Section Chairs regarding Annual Meeting.
Provide excellent customer and client service to the membership and outside vendors who support the organization.
Implement initiatives of the Executive Board in consultation and cooperation with the Executive Director.
Organize tasks and set priorities: short-range and long-range.
Appropriately train, supervise, and delegate tasks to staff and temporary workers, as needed.
Maintain effective lines of communication and reporting to the Executive Director and to the Treasurer and President when appropriate.
Maintain all financial records, submit payroll, maintain personnel records, process receipts and disbursements, prepare appropriate incorporation and tax documents, adhere to accepted accounting principles per audits. Work with Treasurer and Executive Director regarding financial matters. Ensure financial strength of organization by conservative financial management, increased attendance at Annual Meetings, and increased sponsorships, etc.
Maintain membership records, solicit new members, retain current members.
Ensure effective communication with membership by mail, e-mail, website, telephone, and in person.
Maintain records of meeting attendance, exhibitors, increase meeting attendance, increase number of exhibitors
Maintain and update, as needed, the ACJS website.
Perform advanced word processing.
Import and export data from various software applications.
Process, record, track, and report data from ACJS website.
Troubleshoot office equipment problems.
Take the lead and oversee special projects, as directed. Assist Executive Director with special projects.
Produce communication documents and reports based on general information provided.
Manage files and records, fax, and copy.
Travel to the Annual Meeting, the Executive Board mid-year meeting, pre-conference meeting at site hotel, and possibly site selection visits.
Attend all Executive Board meetings as ex-officio member.
Skills for the position:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Demonstrated ability in the area of meeting planning.
Relevant experience in an office setting.
Demonstrated ability to accept direction. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, delegate, and supervise. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize.
MS Office proficiency – including Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of QuickBooks preferred.
Internet proficiency; web-site development and maintenance skills preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to pay strong attention to detail and deadlines/time frames.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve customer problems and issues to make appropriate recommendations and/or solutions.
Willingness to travel.
