The American Chemical Society’s Membership Division is responsible for recruiting, retaining and recognizing members. A critical component of the Division is the Membership department, which is responsible for developing and delivering the programs, products, and services that create value for ACS’s 156,000 members worldwide. Similarly, the department will lead an ACS-wide effort to ensure that the benefits of Society membership are recognized as an essential element of success and value for future generations of chemists worldwide.
Reporting to the Asst. Director of Membership Strategy & Operations, the Member Segment Manager plays a significant role in advising and contributing to the success of the entire organization by coordinating multiple internal teams and managing projects, which serve key segments (i.e. international, early career, industry) and fulfill strategic priorities. The incumbent will work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders in the U.S. and abroad to prioritize initiatives, which deliver the greatest value and impact for members of the organization and will serve as an advocate for these segments.
Manage the coordination of multiple mid-to-long-term initiatives for key segments, including international members, early career professionals, members working in industry, in addition to other high priority special projects and segments as assigned. Serve as advocate for segments as needed.
Define and guide the execution of projects to achieve membership goals and improve operational efficiency, spanning the division’s portfolio of programs, products and services.
Lead internal teams of staff based on key member segments to execute activities that fulfill strategic priorities and advance objectives in order to achieve business unit and division-wide goals in alignment with membership strategic plan.
Partner with program owners to develop clear and measurable plans of action, and ensure all deliverables are clearly specified and agreed upon across teams.
Keep teams current with critical information through status updates and briefings across working groups.
Serve as the “glue” that keeps project teams working collaboratively toward the same strategic vision.
Serve as the Division’s local point person coordinating various international operations for ACS Membership.
Work in partnership with the Decision Support unit to gather, analyze, and act upon data from various sources to drive decision making and measurement of efforts.
Works with international and US-based team members on International Membership initiatives, which aim to formulate, develop, and execute on goals in ACS’s top international strategic regions, and achieve divisional as well as organizational country and regional objectives.
Represent the organization at meetings, events and tradeshows when necessary
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), problem solving and leadership skills. Ability to work within a team environment, and attention to detail required. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task to meet multiple deadlines. International experience and entrepreneurial spirit is a plus. Strategic thinker who can quickly operationalize concepts/ideas and flexibility in a fast paced, change-oriented environment. Technologically proficient with a solid understanding of and ability to use appropriate software products. In the Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with project management tools (i.e. Confluence) and advanced capabilities in Excel are preferred.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of project management experience within a professional environment, preferably in a membership association setting. PMP preferred.
