Exciting opportunity for talented state lobbyist to support the state and local government affairs efforts at Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), a national trade association located in Washington, DC, representing the leading manufacturers and marketers of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary supplements. The Senior Manager, State & Local Government Affairs monitors and analyzes state and local legislation and regulations; drafts position papers, testimony, statements, comments, and filings on behalf of the organization; represents CHPA in state and local legislative and regulatory hearings; and develops and maintains relationships with the CHPA State & Local Government Affairs Committee, state and local organizations, committees, and groups concerned with state and local legislation and regulatory activity.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of state and local legislative and/or lobbying experience, with specific emphasis on crafting formal legislative and regulatory comments and preparing and delivering hearing testimony. Experience working for a trade association with focus on healthcare issues and/or an advanced degree in law or policy is preferred. He/she will have excellent writing skills, including the ability to draft documents with very little turnaround time; strong verbal communication skills with experience testifying before state and local committees and boards; solid relationship and coalition building skills; and the ability to travel up to 25% of the time, often with little notice, as well as work under a remote supervisor.
