The American Society of Hematology (ASH), a Washington, DC-based association of physicians and scientists committed to promoting blood disease research and education, seeks an experienced and highly resourceful Senior Manager, Meetings – a business leadership role that is responsible for all aspects of the logistics for ASH meetings. The Senior Manager, Meetings collaborates with the Senior Director, Meetings to develop and execute strategies that cover the broad range of the Society’s meetings and events. This includes smaller specialty conferences held in North America, Asia, and Latin America, as well as unique aspects of the ASH Annual Meeting. The Senior Manager works collaboratively with department representatives across the organization and ensure the effective use of outsourced meetings resources and optimal use of the Society’s meeting spaces (team rooms and internal conference center). Additionally, the Senior Manager, Meetings supervises assigned meetings staff, providing coaching, mentorship, and supporting professional development.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of professional meeting planning experience; experience planning and executing large, complex meetings and the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation are highly preferred. This position requires broad business acumen including negotiating, project management and excellent organizational skills; ability to develop and implement comprehensive strategies; and demonstrated appreciation for process and deliberate decision-making. Ability to efficiently manage time and meet deadlines and effectively navigate multiple priorities simultaneously; strong attention to detail; capacity to remain flexible in attitude and work style; excellent communication skills (oral and written); and ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations are essential. Ability to supervise, mentor, and coach experienced staff and to deliver excellent results through outsources business partners are also required.
