Summary of Duties: Performs a combination of editorial and administrative duties associated with Associations Now editorial products. Supports other members of overall communications department and editorial staff in these efforts. Position requires daily communication and coordination with other members of the magazine team, particularly the editor-in-chief and editorial director.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Prepares and edits magazine and supplement departments and articles.
Pitches relevant story ideas and contributes two content items per week to AssocationsNow.com.
Proofreads magazine and supplement layouts; assists with managing workflow during production process
Participates in editorial brainstorming meetings to help plan future editorial content for magazine.
Handles systems for the following: maintaining departmental budget records; logging, tracking, and acknowledging all manuscripts received; tracking various editorial data, such as number of editorial and ad pages per issue; generating and ensuring the timely completion and return of authors’ copyright agreements; responding to article reprint requests; and providing authors, photographers, and artists with complimentary magazines and/or tearsheets.
Writes tweets and blurbs to help promote Associations Now content in other ASAE communication vehicles
Coordinates and submits award entries.
Performs other related functions as required by the business.
College degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
One to two years of writing experience, preferably on a magazine or news website. Experience may include internships with reporting and writing as primary responsibilities.
Ability to balance multiple priorities, work independently and as part of a team, keep others informed through clear written and oral communication, and maintain high level of productivity.
Experience with social media and web publishing tools, including content management systems. Familiarity with data visualization, quiz, and video tools desirable.
Good grasp of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to quickly learn ASAE and Associations Now style points. Excellent proofreading skills.
Must possess superior attention to detail, organizational skills, and enough flexibility and creativity to help make mid-stream adjustments to achieve the end goal of high-quality and on-time products.
Additional Salary Information: EOE. Salary is commensurate with experience.
