The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Director, Issue Management & Communications for its Chlorine Chemistry division. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing communication strategies for purposes of advancing chlorine sector policy priorities in regulatory, legislative and other forums. The position is also responsible for developing and producing integrated, strategic messages for traditional and social media for purposes of impacting relevant audiences, including the Division’s disinfection campaigns, cultivating and maintaining relationships with national and trade media and teaming with internal staff to develop media strategies, pitch compelling story ideas, and generate coverage of key issues. This position also provides communication leadership support for the World Chlorine Council. The position reports directly to the Managing Director, Chlorine Chemistry.
Other key duties and responsibilities of the position includes leading implementation of assigned issue advocacy priorities in coordination with member committees and ACC staff; preparing technical, policy (e.g., regulatory comments, position papers, talking points, and testimony) and public outreach (e.g., press releases, web and social media content) material; managing relevant programmatic operational budgets; serving as Chlorine Chemistry division spokesperson on designated policy issues with a primary focus on chlorine transportation issues; and managing and editing content to support chlorine chemistry’s strategies and positions including op-eds, issue papers, press releases, newsletters, backgrounders, fact sheets, speeches, targeted public surveys, web content, social media and other outreach materials.
