The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a non-profit, membership organization with its National Headquarters located near the White House, is seeking a part-time Accountant to perform on-going end-of-the-month general ledger closing duties in the accounting department.
Responsibilities cover a full range of general ledger accounting work, such as reconciling bank accounts, including primary checking account, payroll account, lockbox account, and club accounts; preparing monthly journal entries for general ledger close and other journal entries as needed; reconciling monthly general ledger activity in prepaid expense and deferred revenue accounts; assisting in resolving issues related to cash receipts and disbursements, particularly as they relate to bank accounts; assisting Controller and Accounting Supervisor with special projects and with preparation of financial comparisons, as well as assisting with preparation of annual audit schedules, annual financial reports and with semi-annual physical inventory accounts and reconciliation of inventory account balances.
This is a part-time two to four days (16-32 hours) per month position with work responsibilities scheduled at, or around the end-of-the month close of financial records. This is not a temporary position.

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree (or equivalent college coursework hours) in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or equivalent experience working in an accounting department preparing general ledger account schedules and reconciliations, and journal entries for monthly close. Experience working in an accounting department in a non-profit/association 501c(3) setting is preferable. Proficiency and knowledge of computerized fund accounting software (preferably Sage/MIP) and other Windows based desktop software is required. Qualified applicants must also demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal), possess excellent analytical and research skills, have the ability to work successfully in a deadline driven environment, and be an effective problem solver in reconciling financial data discrepancies.
