The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) seeks senior management professional to serve as an Associate Executive Director. This position provides strategic oversight for all education, meetings and professional development activities of the AANS, its foundation, the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF), and its data collection arm, the NeuroPoint Alliance. As a key member of the senior management team, candidate will report to the Executive Director.
This Associate Executive Director (AED) directs our organizations’ educational programs, representing a substantial portion of our multi-million dollar budget. In addition to supervising all education staff, the Chief Development Officer and the Director of Meetings report to this position.
Senior Management Responsibilities
Provide strategic and administrative management for the functions covering education, meeting services, development/fundraising and the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation
Assist the Executive Director and other senior management in overall organizational administration, fulfilling strategic plan goals and providing an exemplary and competitive work environment for employees
Develop staff to enhance their skills; assisting them in reaching their potential as supervisors and specialists in their field
As part of the Senior Management team, routinely review and provide input on organizational policies, employee professional development, employee benefits, compensation and human resource initiatives.
Maintain AANS’ accreditation as a provider of continuing medical education from the ACCME
Develop educational programming that meets member needs and fulfills organizations’ goals
Create and effectively manage budgets
Liaise with volunteer leadership to develop strategic vision, identify faculty and content experts, design effective and competitive courses and educational activities, including scientific programming for the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting
Manage organizational resources needed to deliver educational services
Serve as primary management liaison to constituencies for scientific-content, sponsorship and education-oriented programs
Assure financial support for educational offerings by directing organizations’ development and fundraising function
Assure effective planning and delivery of operational activities for all the organizations’ meetings (educational and governance) by supervising the meeting services function
Experience & Requirements
Extensive expertise in continuing medical education and maintenance of ACCME Accreditation
10 years’ managerial experience with developing, delivering, evaluating, and continuously improving adult education, accredited medical education, and non-profit professional development
Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s preferred.
Experience in association governance and committee management required? association management company experience desirable
Experience facilitating physician/advanced practice provider volunteer work groups
Proven ability to lead and direct staff, collaborate with volunteer leadership, with vision to achieve short and long term business goals
History of coordinating and collaborating with multiple constituencies (industry supporters, boards, other associations, ACCME/ACGME, clients, volunteers, etc.)
Demonstrated communication skills
