The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, representing dental health care professionals, seeks a new Director of Education. The Academy is a world-wide professional association based in Chicago and during its 66 year history is recognized as the premier organization for dental implant professionals, has benefitted from exceptional financial stewardship, has influenced the dental health care marketplace and has advanced dental implant education.
The Director of Education reports to the Executive Director and has the overall responsibility for the administration and management of the Academy’s continuing education programs, webinars, courses, and national and district meeting programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The listed job functions represent the primary duties and responsibilities. Additional duties within the scope of the position may be assigned to the employee based on the strategic and operational needs of the organization.
Act as the chief visionary for the development of the Academy’s educational programs.
Create and lead an approach to position the Academy as the leader in implant continuing education.
Remain current on adult education technology and techniques.
Establish yearly curriculum of courses and programs.
Develop and implement programs for national and district meetings.
Evaluate and recommend changes to courses and programs.
Review and analyze proposed educational offering to assure established criteria is met.
Assure Academy compliance with requirements and procedures established by continuing education organizations and manage recognition as a continuing education provider by the ADA and AGD.
Collaborate in marketing educational offerings.
Recommend and manage the approved department budget.
Manage and lead the technological adaption and advancement of the department.
Coordinate annual review of offered courses and programs.
Initiate and encourage authors and instructors to develop new courses and offerings.
Oversee development of educational event material.
Lead assistance and coordination at all educational events.
Oversee educational award programs.
Create, analyze and report on attendee surveys and member needs assessments.

The next Director will have proven proficiency dealing with volunteers, adult education principles, professional continuing education, new systems of education delivery and growing education programs. The Director must have outstanding communication skills and must be a content and marketing strategist with the ability to align offered course content with the established mission and goals and have the ability to work collaboratively with other departments. The Director will be a senior team member with 10 other staff colleagues and have one direct report. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required along with 5+ years of experience in adult continuing education field, dental or medical highly preferred, and have a knowledge of organizational management. Recognized credentials in the association management field desired.
