The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) is recruiting for a Public Relations Manager. The successful candidate will work to develop, implement and manage projects to enhance organization-wide external communications and media coverage of key IRI initiatives and to raise awareness of IRI and the importance of retirement planning and retirement security.
The manager builds strong relationships internally between the communications department and other departments. The manager also will help to manage relationships with the IRI Public Relations Committee, external stakeholders, vendors and media.
This position provides project management and implementation support including: drafting news releases, social media and web site content and other communications materials; manage media tracking and reporting; supporting or managing conference PR activities; staying abreast of industry news cycles and identifying ways for proactive media outreach; contributing to the overall goal of IRI’s communications to create awareness and disseminate knowledge of retirement planning to external audiences.
This position reports to the Vice President, Strategic Communications.
Drafts, proofs and/or distributes news releases.
Identifies and contributes content for strategic writing opportunities: blogs, op-eds, social media content, fact sheets, letters to the editor, and web site content.
Monitors news reports and sources using media monitoring service and other open sources.
Works with Vice President, Strategic Communications to build and maintain relationships with industry, business and local/general interest reporters, serving as a go-to resource for expert and information inquiries.
Responds promptly and professionally to inquiries from members and media.
Proactively positions IRI leadership and members as expert media sources.
Works with IRI membership and marketing teams to maintain and carry out PR benefits of IRI membership.
Manages logistics and planning for media activities at IRI conferences.
In coordination with the department leadership, manages all content across IRI’s primary social media accounts, including scheduling and editing of internal content requests and original content development. Follows best practices in frequency posting per channel. Ensure messaging consistency in all social media communications.
Monitors activity/comments on social media accounts and responds as needed.
Contributes to overall social media strategy, particularly as it relates to PR, IRI conferences and reputation management, including developing relevant hashtags and themes for social media
Track and report social media metrics.
