Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Manager of Annual Giving will oversee a comprehensive annual giving program of acquisition, renewal and upgrade through both direct mail and e-appeals and manage the Alliance donor gift clubs including the Guardians of the Land and Legacy Society. S/he takes the lead on audience segmentation, setting strategy for a robust direct mail and e-appeals program, working with creative and strategy consultants, and overseeing production of mailings with the assistance of the Annual Giving and Fundraising Systems Coordinator. S/he is critical to the Alliance’s development moves management process, helping to ensure that donors at all levels are engaged properly, thanked appropriately and quickly, and otherwise stewarded to the highest standards. S/he plays a central role in the moves management process from initial low-level giving through renewal and upgrading, to hand-off to a Major Gift Relationship Manager.
Manage a comprehensive annual fund program of acquisition, renewals and upgrades through both direct mail and personal approaches by assigned Relationship Managers. Help manage the development moves management process.
Manage a robust direct mail and e-appeals program. Create solicitation and cultivation letters and additional materials for acquisition, renewals, upgrades and stewardship. Create, implement and monitor annual calendar of multiple solicitation and cultivation mailings throughout the year in order to meet aggressive revenue goals.
Responsible for growing the pipeline of donors capable of becoming Guardians of the Land. Coordinate closely with the Director of Individual Giving and Gift Officer/s to move qualified Guardians and other major gift prospects into the major donor portfolios as appropriate.
Manage the Alliance donor gift clubs including the Guardians of the Land Society, Legacy Society, Staff Appeals, and others that may be created. Ensure that donors at all levels are engaged properly, thanked appropriately and quickly, and otherwise stewarded to the highest standards while being positioned for renewal and upgrading by an assigned Relationship Manager.
Expand the Individual Giving direct mail and e-appeals.
Supervise the Annual Giving and Fundraising Systems Coordinator to support the overall efforts of the Development Department.
Identify and move qualified donors into the Guardians of the Land Society, and coordinate with the Director of Individual Giving, Gift Officer/s and V.P. of Development to move Guardians and other major gift prospects into major donor portfolios as appropriate.
Serve as the Relationship Manager for the Guardians of the Land (donors of $1,000-$9,999) and lower-level donors qualified for Guardian-level giving, acquiring new Guardians and renewing and upgrading them using a combination of direct mail and higher-end cultivation and stewardship activities.
Manage the Legacy Society, providing regular communications throughout the year, by mail, email, and phone calls, and at events including Rally and special events. Ensure the appropriate level of recognition on appropriate Alliance materials and the website. Work with Development leadership and relationship managers to steward the Legacy Society not only as individuals, but as members of this recognition society.
Oversee the work of the Annual Giving and Fundraising Systems Coordinator and with the Development team overall to guide production of accurate reports and analysis of Individual Giving data. Report monthly on funds raised, cultivation moves and metrics, and stewardship outreach to Alliance donors, including results of travel, visits, and special events.
Oversee portions of the website dedicated to Development and all related online giving mechanisms in coordination with I.T. and the Annual Giving and Fundraising Systems Coordinator.
Support the Director of Individual Giving with the budget process and set goals and financial projections. Report monthly on both revenue and expense budgets, donor moves and metrics, and gifts received and expected. Coordinate efforts and processing for all Development Committee and Board meetings, tracking revenue and projections to ensure that goals are met.
Provide backup support for gift entry for organizational members.
Collaborate with Communications, Membership and other Alliance departments to ensure consistency with communications, messaging and solicitations.
Participate in Alliance, Development, and Individual Giving meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and at least four years’ experience in fundraising, with a preference in annual giving and direct mail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Detail oriented, with strong organizational, analytical and planning skills.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Adaptive and flexible with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as on a team.
Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and a high degree of accuracy in the management of donor records.
Ability work with boards and other leadership groups.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional travel, up to 10 percent annually.
Interest in land conservation preferred.
