NAHB seeks an experienced writer and editor to develop and prepare speeches, presentations and other communications for NAHB’s Senior Officers and other association leaders.
The Writer and Editor for Leadership Communications works cooperatively with NAHB staff across the association to gather information about association priorities to ensure that leadership speeches and other written products advance NAHB’s advocacy agenda and strengthen its status as the voice of the housing industry.
Candidates for this position must be creative, self-motivated and calm under pressure, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates must demonstrate a history of producing high-quality writing, such as news articles, press releases, reports, opinion editorials, letters to the editor, speeches and other presentations, and similar work. The ability to work with a wide range of professionals from various disciplines – legislative, legal, technical and economic – to understand and explain highly complex issues is essential. Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. Workplace diplomacy skills such as negotiation, facilitation and persuasion are also useful.
Qualified candidates should have a minimum of six years of in-depth experience in traditional news media and/or public relations and issues advocacy, as well as a proven history as a writer and editor. Knowledge of the housing or real estate fields is preferred. Candidates should also have experience conducting interviews and synthesizing complex information. Proficiency in social media and web content management is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or related field, or the equivalent in relevant education and experience, is required.
