The public relations manager supports the director of public relations. Principal duties are
Develops and sustains relationships with members of the news media; creatively and successfully pitches stories and enhance coverage; serves as association's publicist
Responds to media and public requests for information
Contributes to the management of the association’s social media program; manages specific campaigns
Prepares and disseminate news releases, fact sheets, issue papers, research reports, case studies, and other materials; writes for association publications
Assists in managing external industry marketing campaigns and initiatives
Measures and reports on communications- and marketing-related metrics
Helps to oversee the association’s internal video program used for public relations and social media purposes
Seeks and arranges speaking engagements for association executives and board officers
Collaborates with director of public relations in managing association awards programs
Collaborates with director of public relations in overseeing the association’s social responsibility efforts
Performs additional responsibilities and ad-hoc project work as needed
Requires college degree in journalism, public relations, English, or related field, and at least three years of relevant experience in public relations, preferably in a trade association, public relations agency, or business enterprise. Must have knowledge of public policy and social media, and expertise in media relations, preferably with proven success working with business, economics, or human resources or other industry trade reporters.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite products and some experience using video editing software, and online news media monitoring, PR management, and social media management platforms required. Must be detail-oriented individual who is proficient with Associated Press or similar style standards. Needs to be a self-starter who thrives in a busy, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
