Join the AMA team as Manager, Book and Product Production in Health Solutions. As part of the team, you will manage production for both print and electronic products for AMA Health Solutions. Ensure AMA publications are published efficiently and profitably while achieving HSG’s quality and service standards, safeguarding AMA intellectual property rights and brand, and meeting mutual contractual obligations.
Other Responsibilities will include:
Identify, implement and maintain technology and processes supporting print and digital production needs:
Recommend changes to systems based on emerging technologies, best practices, and production needs
Manage workflow and production schedules, including related process improvement, for quality and efficiency
This includes formatting, graphics, high-end color correction, composition, tagged data conversion (SGML/XML/HTML), storage, workflow, scheduling
Manage books and products production and editorial staff and third-party vendors:
Recruit, train, and manage staff, contractors, and consultants responsible for editorial development, copyediting, proofreading, indexing, design, composition, production, and manufacturing
Issue and maintain contracts for all freelance staff and technical consultants
Production financial and business operations:
Prepare budgets for manufacturing, hardware, software, and vendors; select and manage vendors to meet obligations efficiently and according to HSG standards, remaining within budget
Collaborate with internal stakeholders in granting permission and verifying copyright.
Bachelor's degree required; English, journalism, information technologies, or graphic arts preferred
5+ years’ management experience in scientific, technical, or medical publishing, including production systems and operations
Demonstrated ability to manage projects and activities of technical and production staff and freelance contractors and technical consultants, including budgeting and contracting
Demonstrated ability to select and train staff supporting processes, including performance management
7+ years’ work experience in a technical publishing, printing, or graphic arts environment required; familiarity with copyediting, author management, fulfillment, manufacturing, paper, and online product needs and functionality
Requires interpersonal communication and social skills to interact with staff, management, vendors, authors, and customers; includes presentations, reports, specifications, and instructions
Demonstrated ability to work and lead effectively in fast-paced deadline driven business environment where extended hours are regularly required
