The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) was founded in 1971 and is the largest dental student organization in the United States. With a membership of more than 24,000, ASDA represents 94% of dental students from all 66 dental schools. ASDA’s mission is to protect and advance the rights, interests and welfare of dental students. The association introduces students to lifelong involvement in organized dentistry and provides services, information, education, representation and advocacy. ASDA representatives vote in the ADA House of Delegates, sit on most ADA councils and commissions and comprise one of the most respected student organizations in the nation.
ASDA is located off Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, with a staff of 15 and an operating budget of $4.5 million.
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Education Manager is responsible for the development of ASDA’s leadership training and national meeting program content. Responsible for managing the planning, course content, speaker selection, session materials and onsite management for all ASDA meetings. Serves as staff liaison to Council on Sessions and the National Leadership Conference planning committee.
Develop, implement and evaluate program content for all association meetings and leadership training. Includes the Annual Session, National Leadership Conference, Spring and Fall Council meetings, and chapter training programs.
Work with committees to secure and finalize agenda and speakers in a timely fashion to optimize event marketing.
Negotiate, contract and communicate with speakers. Reconcile speaker invoices.
Develop and manage budget for programs.
Collect and review all session materials; speaker biographies; and presentations.
Assess the need for an ASDA continuing education certification program.
Coordinate PACE program for ASDA meetings, create, collect and submit required PACE forms on behalf of ASDA attendees.
Manage program evaluations and analyze results, recommend improvements to committees, councils and staff.
Provide strategic planning and development support for new educational initiatives (i.e. webinars, distance learning, virtual events) and manage the implementation of these programs in collaboration with committees, work groups, and staff teams.
Provide program content and information for e-newsletters, the web site and mobile app (education sessions, speakers).
Provide onsite coordination for programs.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Some travel and weekend/overtime work required.
Bachelor's degree in business, communications or related field.
Five plus years experience in developing and executing successful educational programs. Skilled at developing program content.
Experience working with volunteers.
Excellent organizational abilities, ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal relations, display exemplary customer skills and collaborate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Familiarity with association management software (Association Anywhere) preferred.
