Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Event Operations is part of a strong senior management staff team and will serve as a critical force for innovation and management of our conference offerings. This role includes a balance of strategic collaboration, conference management, personnel and budget management, as well as hands-on, day-to-day implementation.
The Director of Event Operations is expected to lead comfortably and capably, and to represent the Academy’s interests well, both internally and externally. He/she will be responsible for providing operational and strategic support in the overall development, expansion and implementation of programs. He/she will ensure programs are aligned with strategic goals and will assess outcomes. The overall accountabilities of the position include:
Delivering exceptional and innovative meetings and conferences
Growing revenue associated with our events while managing expenses within budget
Managing the planning and logistics for all conferences
Managing a team of direct reports
The successful candidate will have 10 years of seasoned leadership within a professional society or trade association. This will include demonstrated success in delivering successful meetings and conferences. Other requirements include:
A “builder” of community, of partnerships, of successful working relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and exhibitors
A verifiable track record of success with program planning and management, including implementation and assessment, and budget oversight.
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. CMP is desired.
Leadership ability and a collaborative management style that values and celebrates teamwork are required. The skills needed to plan, organize and coordinate work to meet deadlines and accommodate changing priorities are essential.
