The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), a medical specialty society of over 14,500 members located in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks a Director of Membership to oversee the membership department. This individual will provide primary leadership and management for all aspects of membership growth and engagement, and will work closely with other internal departments to develop product, services, partners, and member interactions with the ultimate goal of creating member value, enhancing awareness of the ACG brand/identity, and advancing the mission. The Director will oversee development, planning, and management of organization’s membership initiatives, including membership applications process and member retention and recruitment efforts.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Work on membership retention and recruitment initiatives highlighting member value
Develop and manage strategic partnerships offering financial and practice discounts to members
Serve as the staff liaison for multiple committees working with committee chairs to draft agendas, run meetings, oversee communications and implement programs
Supervise the Membership Coordinator and Membership Manager
Responsible for the accuracy of the membership and prospect database
Oversee the dues invoicing process
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree is required
5+ years of association experience, preferably in a membership-related role required
Ability to lead and direct staff
Superior proficiency in MS Office programs and previous database experience
High-level organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail
Must be able to multi-task, problem-solve, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal/written communication skills
Project management experience
Strong customer service focus
Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with internal team members as well as external customers including physicians and other healthcare personnel
Ability to travel, as necessary
