Under the general direction of the Chief Economist, conducts research, leads key economic and strategic initiatives, responds to information requests, compiles data, and assists in the dissemination of findings relating to commodities, recycling, the economy and trade.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Conduct independent research and serve as an area expert on different sectors of the recycling industry including but not limited to paper, plastics, electronics, tires and rubber, and other sectors.
Prepare reports and respond to requests to meet diverse information and strategic planning needs of ISRI members, staff, the public and press, as appropriate.
Work with the Chief Economist in drafting content and disseminating research findings in presentations, testimony and in weekly, quarterly and annual ISRI publications.
May testify at regulatory or legislative hearings and serve as liaison with government agencies.
Devise methods and procedures for collecting and processing data, utilizing knowledge of available sources of data and various econometric and sampling techniques.
Serve as liaison to ISRI commodity division(s) and other duties as required.
Work with ISRI’s commodity divisions and staff to update, standardize, and promote ISRI’s scrap specifications.
Compile and process data relating to research areas including but not limited to commodities (prices, supply, demand, and inventories), recycling (volumes of recyclables processed and consumed, recycling rates, etc.) the economy (employment, inflation, productivity, industrial production, etc.), and trade (exports, imports and balance of trade).
Organize data into tables and graphs that are easy to understand for dissemination to a range of audiences.
Monitor and stay abreast on the latest trends in the economy, recycling industry, commodity, and scrap markets.

Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
An undergraduate degree in economics or related field (graduate degree preferred).
8-10 years professional experience in research (education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement).
Recycling industry or trade association experience preferred.
