The Communications & Outreach Manager will manage the digital and traditional communications and messaging for AIA Illinois. Working to develop effective outreach strategies through targeted communications and expand our online presence and greater visibility among primary stakeholders,
Including AIA members; prospective members; legislators; the media and allied organizations.
Working with key staff and member leaders, the manager will be responsible for developing an effective communication strategy, budget recommendations and overseeing the primary activities to achieve the strategic objectives.
AIA Illinois offers compensation commensurate with experience and responsibilities including an outstanding benefit package. The manager will handle the administrative duties related to communications and be the primary resource to the board and staff for best practices, new ideas and strong execution of shared goals.
Roles and Responsibilities
Manage AIA Illinois website to keep vibrant and current
Oversee content as needed of the Illinois Great Places website
Generate engaging content through publications, website and social media i.e. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Curate content for twice monthly e-news via Constant Contact.
Grow relationships with key influencers ensuring they receive relevant, timely updates
Develop relationships with the media, engage with the press, and any key influencers
Provide communications support for any policy or informational handouts and briefs
Engage membership in opportunities for involvement on advocacy-based campaigns
Assist with member engagement events such as Grassroots Lobby Day and/or CANstruction
Manage outreach to potential partners, build an organizational network
Some travel and occasional nights/weekends may be required
Coordinate with other AIA Offices to share and extend communication efforts
Gather insight from subject matter experts on design trends and practice innovations
Monitor regulations that affect the architecture profession
Maintain the Illinois Architects Political Action Committee
4-year Bachelor’s degree required. Relevant 5 to 7 years related work experience preferred
Experience crafting and implementing communications and messaging strategy
Exceptional verbal communication skills
Strong writing and editing skills
Adept at networking and relationship building
Ability to manage projects independently
An eye for compelling visuals and graphics
Desire to discover and share stories that resonate
Collaborative approach to problem solving for win-win outcomes
Highly collaborative style; ability to thrive in a small team environment
Background in a wide range of media platforms
Continually aware of new ways to do old things better
Knowledge of architecture and design preferred
