Washington, DC based association management firm seeks association professional to serve as Director of Membership for providing daily oversight and management. Reporting to the Executive Director, The Director of Membership will play a pivotal role implementing membership retention and recruitment including attract new members, retain current members and enhance benefits and foster member engagement. The Director of Membership will be responsible for the day to day management of all committees, education program and development and execution of member services including blog, podcasts, website and manage and process membership.
Responsible for personally calling existing, prospective and inactive members to determine member needs and reasons for not choosing to renew memberships.
Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the membership database and generating and processing renewal notices.
Conduct surveys and focus groups of members when appropriate to gauge member and prospective options
Participate in networking events to drive member engagement
Respond to member and prospective member inquires through email, telephone and web
Manage membership accounts receivables process with membership services and accounting teams to ensure timely payment of dues
Manage membership distribution lists
Onboard new members
Manage Board meeting membership reports and presentation with quarterly and annual update on membership recruitment, retention and engagement
Provide membership marketing content for event marketing to drive attendance and membership for events
Facilitates board/committee/work group calls (develop agenda, minutes, project task list) with minimal oversight
Provides input at client board meetings
3. Management of Marketing Initiatives
Manages Director of Marketing
Oversees Distribution of RFP for Marketing Services
Oversees development of marketing materials including development of new exhibit booth
Coordinates staffing and travel at industry shows
Implements Ambassador Program
Manages website content
Ensures timely distribution of newsletters and publications
Suggests area of content and format redesign
Manages Membership website
Compile, edit and distribute the blog
Works with staff on communicating member needs, services, and pertinent information for website, newsletters, and other communication vehicles
Manages and oversees the day to day operations
Manages client calendar of events and projects
Ensures appropriate levels of staffing
Manages organization and development of new electronic filing system
Manages (in conjunction with Executive Director) annual dues renewal process
Manages membership termination process
Understanding of database systems
Works with outside vendors
Develops, edits and maintains documents and reports
A minimum of five to seven years’ experience in association/non-profit management; including working with board of directors, committees and workgroups; managing multiple stakeholders
Experience leading committees/workgroups and the ability to make decisions on behalf of a client
Experience managing and implementing all aspects of a broad-spectrum project
Extremely organized with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple projects
Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and resourceful under pressure
Ability to work both in a team environment and independently
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); including ability to present and speak in public
Outstanding customer service and ability to work with members in person, on the phone and electronically
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience in Filemaker and iMIS preferred, or similar member database
Knowledge in working with an email communication program (i.e. Constant Contact)
Familiarity working with a web publishing platform (i.e. WordPress or similar)
This position will require 10-15% domestic travel throughout the year.
This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
