Position Summary The executive director reports to the Board of Managers and is responsible for the efficient and effective day-to-day operation and administration of the QCBA and its supporting foundation under their bylaws and policies. Operations include management of the foundation-owned bar center. There are two full-time staff members. This is a full-time, exempt position. Primary Responsibilities Governance - Ensure implementation of board-adopted policies
- Maintaining open lines of communication with the board and keeping the board apprised of on matters affecting the Association
- Prepare board agendas in consultation with the President
- Administer nomination and election processes
Finances & Administration - Oversee $550,000 budget
- Monitor income and expenses
- Prepare annual budget working with the Treasurer and the Budget Committee
- Prepare monthly financial reports
- Assure compliance with tax and regulatory filings
- Work with financial consultants such as investment advisors, accountants, and auditors
- Execute technology planning and upgrades, including membership management system
Staff - Supervise and manage staff, including hiring, annual performance reviews, and terminations
- Administer staff benefits and compensation
- Comply with federal, state, and local human resources-related statutes and regulations
Membership Programs and Services - Develop membership outreach and retention strategies
- Manage continuing legal education (CLE) programs, including compliance with New York State MCLE guidelines for provider certification
- Market programs, products, and services to members and potential members
- Edit and develop content for the monthly newsletter and website
- Plan Annual Dinner and other special events
- Conduct outreach to stakeholders, including members of the Judiciary
- Supervise the LRS, including marketing and panel development
Facility Management and Property Oversight - Supervise routine property maintenance
- Obtain proposals and bids for work, as needed
- Ensure appropriate insurance policies are in place
- Work with the Building Committee to develop a long-term plan
About the Association The Queens County Bar Association (QCBA) is a 1,700-member professional membership organization for attorneys, judges, and law students. Organized as a 501© 6 non-profit, the Association's office is in Jamaica, New York. The Association's mission is to promote the highest caliber of professionalism, advance the administration of justice, and foster members' professional development through education, skills training, and networking. It also operates a Lawyer Referral Service and works to facilitate public understanding of law and respect for lawyers and the legal system. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Proficiency with standard software applications, including virtual program delivery platforms, is expected. |
