Society for Vascular Surgery Patient Safety Organization (SVS PSO)
As part of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Vascular Surgery Patient Safety Organization was organized to improve the quality, safety, effectiveness, and cost of vascular health care. It is a growing organization that collects information about vascular treatment and provides anonymous comparative data to stimulate improvement. It is the core structure of the Vascular Quality Initiative, which also includes regional groups of hospitals geographically organized to implement vascular quality improvement across the VQI membership.
Position Summary:
The SVS PSO, based in Rosemont, IL is seeking a full time Quality Director. This individual will have responsibility for the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives within the PSO. He/she will provide guidance to many VQI members and regional quality groups about appropriate methodology for conducting quality improvement activities. This position works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Clinical Operations, SVS PSO Medical Director, Associate Medical Directors and the SVS Executive Leadership.
What You'll Bring (Requirements):
A minimum of 5 years of quality improvement experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed below may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Knowledgeable in, and experience with quality improvement strategies, approaches, techniques, tools and analytical methods.
Ability to effectively lead and communicate the SVS PSO quality vision to others including physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff to achieve the goals of the PSO.
Ability to maintain collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues to effectively contribute to the achievement of goals and to help foster a positive work environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including listening skills, are critical. The individual must be comfortable speaking to groups and individuals, presenting ideas professionally and clearly and focusing discussions on the appropriate issues.
Excellent project management skills. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage results-oriented programs that achieve the targeted goal.
Excellent organizational skills, and good judgment; must be a team player, positive, flexible, and creative to ensure the improvement strategy and plans are successful.
Possess flexibility and the ability to work independently. Possess skill in adapting to changing circumstances in addition to a strong ability to work independently.
Excellent creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Able to proficiently and effectively handle multiple priorities, projects and deliverables.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Proficiency in Google applications, Google documents and Google Sheets.
Education requirement:
Minimum bachelor’s degree required. A nursing or clinical degree is preferred but not required. A master’s degree in Quality Improvement, Business Administration, Health Care Management, or related area is highly desirable.
What you’ll own (Duties & Responsibilities)
Works with the Quality Committees of the SVS PSO to develop and implement national quality improvement projects.
Obtain, interpret, and develop data using Excel spreadsheets to determine quality patient outcomes using the National Quality Campaigns.
Works with regional groups and contracted sites to support quality and performance improvement.
Ensures the execution and continual assessment of strategies and plans for all quality improvement projects.
Works with the Analytic Director to develop opportunities and monitor performance needs. Such as Appropriate Use Criteria, Risk Adjusted Metrics, and Outcome Reports Initiates and executes strategies and plans for knowledge dissemination, including preparing educational tools, organizing, and managing publication of key manuscripts, posters and presentations.
Serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the Governing Council, Executive Committee, Quality Committees and work groups/committees.
Organizes and manages key conference presentations and events as part of knowledge dissemination of local, regional and national quality initiatives.
Works with Marketing Manager to develop performance improvement program materials, presentations, webinars, educational tools for newsletters, QI Supplemental Guide and other communication venues including the VQI.org website.
Manages the SVS PSO’s Participation Award program, which recognizes centers for their participation in regional meetings, excellence in capturing long-term follow up data and using registry data to initiate quality improvement initiatives.
Is the staff liaison to the SVS PSO Participation Committee, which governs the operations of the Participation Awards program.
Works with centers to develop Quality Improvement charters and disseminates results and best practices to participating centers.
Leads focus calls with groups to work on VQI National, Regional and Local Quality Improvement Initiatives.
Works with the Governing Council and its Executive Committee to develop a strategic plan and operating plan, actively envisioning and shaping the organization and its work.
Develops and maintains, along with the other SVS PSO leadership, collaborative relationships with other organizations and corporations that are involved in quality improvement.
Represents the SVS PSO at appropriate forums necessitating the presence of the chief quality officer.
Regional meetings – Provides bi-annual updates and quality improvement information for the regional slide decks. Facilitate and attend regional meetings in-person or remotely when national circumstances prevent in-person attendance.
Leads ad hoc committees as needed. Physical Requirements & Environment
Typical office setting with routine sitting and occasional standing. Routine use of basic office equipment and computer. Occasional evening and/or weekend work maybe required based on business needs. Occasional telecommuting is allowed.
