The Houston Building Owners and Managers Association (Houston BOMA), the premier commercial real estate association for Houston, represents the interests of the Houston office building industry. Membership includes 197 commercial offices, institutional and public buildings and 68 companies that provide commercial building services. The Association plays a vital role as a trusted leader in fighting for fair and justifiable taxes, fair regulation, enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability practices, emergency preparedness, along with streamlined and cost-effective government.
Commercial building owners, property managers, engineers and vendors form the nucleus of BOMA members and are privy to the benefits of legislative advocacy, networking events, educational seminars, and social gatherings. The Association advocates on behalf of over 320 million square feet of commercial real estate in over 2,200 buildings in the Houston area. By protecting the interests of the owners and managers of these buildings, Houston BOMA also supports the businesses that are housed in them--businesses that require quality office space and quality service.
Houston BOMA seek a proven executive-level leader whose career in a similar-size or larger national association, or comparable business enterprise, has been noted by their ability to chart a path forward with exceptional communication skills and servant leadership approach. This person must exhibit success in collaborating with and convening diverse stakeholders sharing common interests and values so that the tactics and strategic goals of the organization are pursued in a collegial, transparent, and highly participatory manner. While not required, individuals with experience in real estate and/or advocacy are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a proven record in building strategic activities and partnerships on behalf of an organization or association; a creative approach to marketing and branding; strong negotiation skills and a comfort level being the face of the organization. This person will be a leader who can develop and support a team of professional employees through effective management, delegation, professional development, and confident decision making. A proven track record in building a strong, positive culture of support and a team focus is key. The qualified candidate will possess a high level of business and financial acumen.
This person should demonstrate an ability to both raise the profile of Houston BOMA and to support the best interests of its members. Experience working with stakeholders to build new business and political relationships, partnerships, and expanded membership is highly desired. Along with these skills, some of the important personal attributes for this position include authenticity, strategic problem-solving, a proactive approach, charisma, diplomacy/political savvy, nimbleness, and a sense of humor.
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred. Demonstration of continuing professional education, accreditation in a professional field and/or nonprofit board leadership would be highly desirable.
