The American Institute of Architects, located in downtown Washington, DC with 200+ employees is recruiting for a Manager, Instructional Design. The Manager position is in the Professional Development & Resources department reporting to the Director, Member Education Resources and responsible for providing project management, instructional design, subject matter expertise, and collaborative support for AIA continuing education and other programs. This role includes developing curricula and courses to support continuing education and other education initiatives. Specifically, the Manager will design, develop, and support courses on AIAU, AIA’s online elearning platform.
Job Duties:
Design & Development
Support the development and implementation of an AIAU content strategy that aligns with departmental and AIA priorities.
Design and develop curricula and discrete learning programs for delivery on AIAU.
Evaluate, curate, and inform provider content for AIAU placement.
Provide technical advice to other groups designing and developing continuing education products.
In coordination with Director, Member Education Resources, provide subject matter expertise for the design and delivery of continuing education products and resources across AIA.
Platform, Partner, & Product Support
Manage relationships with and processes for internal and allied content providers.
Support the CES Technology and Provider Services teams in the technical production and delivery of live and on demand courses and resources.
Provide customer service to AIAU customers and others concerning general and technical inquiries concerning AIAU courses and programs.
Other Duties
Assist with special projects and other related duties, as assigned or as necessary.

Demonstrated experience and understanding of current instructional design methodologies and practice as well as demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles. Demonstrated experience designing live and on-demand virtual education programs as well as face-to-face and blended learning solutions. Outstanding written/oral communication skills and organizational skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as familiarity with web-based research and information dissemination applications including SharePoint. Experience with online course development tools, technologies, and experience with Articulate360, Adobe Creative Suite, Moodle, and SCORM. Ability to coordinate a diverse resource pool, to interact effectively in an individual membership environment, to analyze issues and concepts to correctly state a problem and develop recommended solutions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field with three-to-five years’ relevant experience. An advanced degree is preferred and may be substituted for experience. Association experience is a plus.
