POSITION: Assistant General Counsel
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: General Counsel
OVERVIEW
The Assistant General Counsel reports to the General Counsel, and is responsible for (i) serving as the primary staff support for the Commission on Professional Conduct, (ii) legal review of Association contracts referred by Association agencies and the General Counsel, (iii) assisting the General Counsel with confidential legal issues and AAOMS Board activities, (iv) answering inquiries from members on ethical, legal and governmental issues, and (v) performing research and handling transactional matters referred by the General Counsel.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in Illinois
· 3-5 years of experience with association law and health law issues
· Knowledge of practice management and risk management issues
· 3-5 years experience with contract law and reviewing business contracts
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Association experience
· Excellent time and project management skills
· Knowledge of law and ethics regarding confidentiality
· Ability to work independently but collaboratively
· Information management skills
· Word processing, spreadsheet and related computer applications
· Working knowledge of a specialized database
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Serve as primary support staff to the AAOMS Commission on Professional Conduct (CPC)
· Maintain primary responsibility for reviewing contracts in a timely manner
· Assist General Counsel with issues arising from dental and medical boards and other areas of the dental profession
· Assist General Counsel with issues relevant to the specialty, including scope of practice, licensing and communicating with the public
· Assist General Counsel with Association trademark matters, including USPTO registrations and cease and desist letters
· Provide legal review for in-house matters
· Respond to member inquiries on legal, ethical and governmental issues
· Assist as necessary in responding to Seal requests from members and publication requests from outside parties
- Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned by the General Counsel
