Primary purpose: Develops and implements successful mentorship programs for various groups within SCCM, creating procedures, ensuring confidentiality, providing resources, and measuring program success.
Responsibilities:
I. Promotion and management of mentoring programs
A. Creates and maintains collaborative working relationships with staff and volunteers to support a successful multifaceted mentorship program. Works closely with and assists the Leadership, Empowerment, and Development (LEAD) professional development program manager with related program development activities. B. Works with communication staff to recruit both mentors and mentees into the program. Educates participants (both mentors and mentees) on mentoring and its benefits and time commitments. Manages the selection and matching process. Communicates with staff to ensure that all know about SCCM mentoring programs. Ensures a prominent program profile in all SCCM activities, including during SCCM’s annual Congress. C. Responsible for the creation and execution of standard procedures to ensure the smooth and consistent operation of the programs. In conjunction with volunteer member leaders, determines the programs’ structure and tenure, frequency of mentor-mentee meetings, and tools and software needed to run successful programs. Ensures that participants and staff are aware of resources and procedures when assistance is required. D. Ensures that personal data privacy is maintained and that information seen by the mentoring program manager is used only to improve the mentor-mentee relationship or the overall program, without disclosing personally sensitive information. E. Provides or develops internal and external resources necessary for participant success, such as handbooks, guides, and training resources specific to mentoring or ancillary professional development resources such as those developed by the SCCM LEAD program. External resources may also be included with appropriate approvals. Identifies participants (both mentors and mentees) who are struggling and provides individualized support to encourage successful program completion. F. Conducts orientation programs with participants to explain program goals and mentor and mentee roles. Conducts separate group meetings with mentors and mentees to determine program progress and need for changes or improvements. G. Coordinates with mentors and mentees to ensure they are engaging regularly in mentoring sessions. Evaluates the program’s success and mentees’ progress and collects formal and informal feedback from participants. Reports to mentorship pairs on their progress and reports to volunteer committees and SCCM leadership.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher required • Relevant experience in the management of a mentorship program preferred • Experience in mentorship in a healthcare or academic setting preferred • Project management skills required • Excellent oral and written skills • Experience working with committees and volunteers
SCCM has a generous remote work policy. Employees continue to work virtually, but they may be asked to come into the office on occasion at the discretion of the department director. Candidates must reside in or plan to move to the Chicagoland area.
