Position Summary:
The Vice President of Association Marketing and Communications is responsible for visioning, leading, developing and executing the organization’s communications and marketing efforts, from strategic planning through day-to-day tasks. The Vice President will advance the organization’s 100-year-old leadership of the battery manufacturing and recycling industry and play a key role in enhancing BCI’s reputation, promoting its brand and effectively engaging internal and external stakeholders. The position reports to the President and is a senior leadership position that requires exceptional communication skills, people management skills, strategic thinking and the ability to lead, work with, and influence cross-functional teams. The Vice President will oversee all facets of the organization’s communications infrastructure, including but not limited to media relations, social media, traditional media, and web content, manage communications/marketing vendors and supervise internal BCI communications team.
As part of the BCI senior management team, the VP works with BCI leadership to support strategic planning, governance, and board operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop an annual marketing and communications plan and budget for approval by the BCI Board and be accountable for delivering the planned programs.
Provide expertise and communications support to advance BCI’s advocacy efforts and campaign goals across all BCI focus areas.
Lead internal communications efforts to ensure consistent and transparent messaging to stakeholders.
Lead and create strategic message development and ensure consistency of messaging across all association brands and programs on relevant messaging platforms.
Serve as chief publicist for the organization, achieving national renown for our work and organization.
Serve as the primary contact for U.S. media inquiries and develop and coordinate responses as necessary, including coordination with allied trade associations
Lead the communications team, including supervisory responsibility, identifying and contracting with communications consultants, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
Establish and manage effective cross-team relationships with organization leadership, program leads, development, and others to identify marketing and communications goals that advance the mission, brand, and day-to-day work.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
Proven experience (at least 10 years) in communications and/or marketing with at least three years leading a communications team within a complex organizational structure.
Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills, with a track record of success in developing and executing communication strategies.
Strong knowledge of media relations, social media, content, SEO/SEM and email marketing strategies
High level of professionalism and integrity, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Strong management experience and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
Experience working in an association or with sustainability advocacy preferred
Experience working on issues impacting manufacturing or industrial operations
Experience working with government and regulatory affairs
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements
This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, laptops, and smartphones. The position may be filled remotely, but will require regular meetings in the Washington, DC region and travel to industry events.
Prolonged periods of time using a computer.
Ability to maintain concentration and work performance with frequent disruptions.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of office supplies or materials.
Ability to travel at various times throughout the year.
