The Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) is proud to be the only professional society representing multi-disciplinary teams of neurocritical care providers around the world whose mission is to improve outcomes for patients with life-threatening neurological illnesses. Comprised of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, advanced practice providers, researchers and scientists, the neurocritical care team serves patients with life-threatening brain and spinal cord emergencies and injuries, using training in areas like advanced brain and nervous system monitoring and pharmacotherapy, with one goal — to bring their collective knowledge to drive the best possible outcomes.
What You Will Do…
Role: Provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for a ~$4M membership-based healthcare society. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop the organization's long and short-term growth strategies. Advocate and develop relationships to advance the neurocritical care specialty. Engage the appropriate resources to achieve the desired outcomes for the organization. Manage overall operations, financials, technology, and human resources. Ensure compliance with by-laws and board policies for the organization while supporting the organization’s culture.
Results: Achieve NCS’ vision, mission, and organizational goals; achieve annual budgeted financial performance; grow the organization; build strong relationships with volunteer leaders and key stakeholders; and advance NCS’ external brand, reputation, and impact.
Performance: Measured by achieving Board-defined metrics while consistently demonstrating the required leadership competencies; the organization's overall relevance and impact; and the financial, operational, and resource management effectiveness.

Fulfill duties of Executive Director, such as…
Serve as the Chief Staff Officer reporting to the NCS Board of Directors as well as Headquarters (HQ) liaison to key governance committees.
Study, learn, retain, and apply subject matter knowledge related to the organization. Become adept at the issues, environment, vocabulary, and personas of membership.
Contribute to strategic thinking and future-focused planning and prioritization efforts of the Board of Directors.
Advise the Board of Directors on governance-related leading practices related to Bylaws, volunteer recruitment, organizational structure, policies, norms, and behaviors.
Drive action-planning and execution of programs, services, product development, and other initiatives that translate strategic thinking into action and outcomes.
Work alongside leadership to drive and/or support the creation and nurturing of external partnerships (e.g., companies, associations, governmental organizations) that elevate and broaden the reach of the organization’s brand and mission and/or contribute to the organization’s financial health.
Work with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to develop and nurture a culture of engaged volunteers, applying best practices to recruitment, engagement, and recognition.
Communicate effectively with leadership and all stakeholders on matters related to the organization; serve as the primary driver of communications (either directly or through others).
Serve as the business leader of the organization, accountable for driving strategic conversations related to the financial model and assuming overall accountability for the organization’s financial health and stability.
Drive the annual process for the development of the organization’s budget, including the identification, selection, and engagement of resources or solutions within the parameters of the approved budget (i.e., operational planning).
Ensure all laws, regulatory filings, accounting practices, and other matters related to business administration are upheld and/or fulfilled.

Design the optimal staff (or other resources) team to execute operations, drive efficiency and effectiveness, and advance strategic priorities within the parameters of the approved budget.
Create and nurture an environment for staff to be effective and engaged, including role clarity, expectations, performance management, and overall morale.
Implement quality assurance regarding the creation, organization, and retention of documents and materials of the organization.
Deliver service excellence by HQ staff to volunteers, members, collaborators, funders, and other stakeholders.
Be a service-leader by helping staff develop knowledge, competencies, and skills to successfully perform their roles.
Communicate expectations; surface and resolve conflict; and reward and recognize successes across the staff team.
Assume accountability for all staff functions, actions, and outcomes.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Senior-level management experience is required. Demonstrates experience and competence in developing both strategy and operational plans to support general business goals of an organization and directing the operations designed to achieve these goals. Must include experience with budgeting and managing P&L. Knowledge of governance practices, financial management, and accounting is required.
Previous experience as a Chief Staff Officer for a healthcare association is highly desirable.
Prior experience with leading, performance management, and developing staff is desirable. Prior experience with mobilizing results from volunteers and with matrix work environments is beneficial.
REQUIREMENTS
Pending location must be willing to work out of our Chicago, IL or Washington, D.C. office for team-based environment.
Willing to travel frequently domestically and internationally.
