Summary: The Chapter Manager provides leadership consultation and development services for the American College of Surgeons' 67 Domestic Chapters.  The manager provides best practices, training, and compliance coaching for the governing bodies, leaders, and staff in the chapters.  This is intended to enhance membership recruitment and retention services, as well as ensure proper governance and sound education programs.

This exempt position will report to the Associate Director, Member Services in the Division of Member Services. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.

Responsibilities:

• Recommend association management best practices to chapters relating to budgets, staffing, governance, volunteers, communications, strategic planning, and operational growth.
  
  
• Manage chapter health reports to assess chapters’ organizational effectiveness and provide recommendations for strategic direction.
  
  
• Facilitate strategic planning sessions with chapters to assist chapter leaders in defining business objectives, improving operations, and determining key priorities.
  
  
• Support chapters with needs assessments, including survey design, fielding surveys, analysis and presentation of results, actionable insights, and strategic recommendations.
  
  
• Conduct new chapter leader onboarding, including updating orientation materials and operationalize the continuum of chapter leader skill building needs to support chapter leaders’ optimal performance.
  
  
• Create publications, toolkits, and webinars for chapters on a variety of association management topics and ACS programs.
  
  
• Oversee chapter dues billing process.
  
  
• Plan chapter events and programs at the Leadership and Advocacy Summit and Clinical Congress annual meeting.
  
  
• Manage the budget for domestic chapters.
  
  
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is required.
  
  
• At least 5 years of related program management experience, with emphasis on volunteer management, budget management, and the development and dissemination of communications through various multi-media platforms.
  
  
• Experience working in a health related or association environment and supervising staff or serving as a team lead preferred.
  
  
• Strong communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  
  
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Advanced computer skills helpful.
