Founded in 1877, and headquartered in Springfield, the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is the premier legal association in the state. As a voluntary organization of more than 28,000 members, the Association’s primary focus is to help Illinois lawyers practice more efficiently by providing time and money-saving services and assisting them in the practice of law while also promoting improvements in the administration of justice. To this end, the Association engages in many important activities on behalf of the profession—among them providing continuing legal education, proposing and shaping legislation, educating the public, and supporting the courts and the rule of law.
ISBA is seeking an experienced, hands-on, Director of Information Technology to provide overall leadership and supervision of the IT department and support to Association staff while directing the Association’s technology efforts towards the technological advancements required to maintain an innovative professional association that strives to provide excellent service to its members. This position may reside in the Chicago area and work out of our Chicago Regional Office (CRO) or the Springfield headquarters.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide leadership, vision, and management to the IT department.
Analyze association goals, research current and future information technologies, and develop a strategic plan and timeline for the Association’s technology consistent with the Association’s goals.
Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems.
Manage and prioritize IT-related projects.
Assist in evaluation, purchase, installation, and maintenance of operating systems.
Recommend and implement technical hardware and software solutions.
Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions, and file maintenance.
Develop IT financial long-range budget.
Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
Serve as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of RFP’s, bids, contracts, agreements and other major vendor interactions regarding IT-related products and services.
Supervise IT department and assume responsibility for all staff IT training.
Supervise and coordinate support services to staff on day-to-day issues.
Communicate regularly with executive management.
Develop written standard operating procedures and best practices policies.

Strong technical background and exposure to multi-platform environments
Telecom, integrated VOIP, and A/V experience helpful
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS or equivalent; must have prior IT leadership experience with demonstrated experience in project management; extensive hands-on experience with hardware, software, network platforms and troubleshooting; knowledge of TCP/IP, Microsoft systems/applications, Linux, Macintosh hardware, Internet/Intranet, and database technologies. Limited ability for SQL programming.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Perform office work which is often mobile and includes lifting servers/systems up to 40 pounds. Position requires a prominent level of manual dexterity of hands, fingers, and arms. Ability to travel to Chicago Regional Office or Illinois Bar Center and various off-site locations, including the Annual and Mid-year Meetings and remote office locations required.
