Position Purpose: Key member of the guidelines and publications department who supports task forces of volunteer medical experts and liaises with cross-functional teams and the Clinical Practice Guidelines Oversight Committee to develop and produce clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements for the association. Supports operations of the clinical guidelines team and provides customer service to association volunteers, members, and staff. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to achieve common goals and pursue direction necessary for growth and success of association in general and guidelines team in particular.
What You’ll Do:
Maintains knowledge base and proficiency in best practices for evidence-based guideline development, following standards of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly Institute of Medicine), to the extent possible within the association
Implements the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations) approach for development of evidence-based guidelines
Manages development of clinical questions, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and language/grades of recommendations with direction and oversight of task force chairs
Designs and conducts systematic literature searches and/or collaborates with and provides oversight to contract librarians
Conducts systematic reviews and meta-analyses with documentation of parameters of literature searches, process of evidence selection, inclusion/exclusion criteria, data importing, and numbers of articles collected and selected to write methods section of guidelines or to inform methods written by contract librarians
Assesses and synthesizes evidence based on GRADE, building evidence tables/summaries and rating quality of evidence
Provides support to task forces in applying GRADE Evidence-to-Decision Frameworks to develop clinical recommendations
Cross-checks evidence selected for inclusion in final manuscript, monitors newly published articles relevant to topic
Manages projects and guides task force chairs and authors throughout development and update of clinical practice guidelines and consensus statements, adhering to AACE–approved policies, processes, methodology, and timelines
Creates materials in collaboration with chairs/vice chairs/co-chairs to support video and in-person meetings of task forces
Provides training and guidance to methodology fellows who serve on assigned task forces to develop their theoretical and practical skills to support production of guidelines and/or consensus statements
Manages production of manuscripts from initiation to publication, including collation, incorporation of revisions, reference management, version control, tables and figures, permissions, and submission and approval requirements of association and scientific journal
Supports annual review of guidelines as necessary
Under direction of the Chief Guidelines and Publications Officer, develops and updates AACE processes and policies and prepares reports as needed
Facilitates communication with internal and external stakeholders and prepares written reports of committee meetings and activities related to development of guidelines and consensus statements as needed
Liaises with other societies/groups/agencies as necessary for multi?stakeholder projects and issues
Adheres to approved budget for contracted work related to development of guidelines and consensus statements
Monitors and contributes content and updates related to guidelines and consensus statements on AACE website
Organizes and maintains literature and supporting materials for the guidelines development program to ensure consistency and ease of use by the guidelines team
Maintains a broad and deep understanding of AACE policies and procedures related to organizational development of clinical practice guidelines
Participates in periodic evening conference calls and in?person meetings

Who You Are:
Master’s degree required
5+ years of experience as a project manager
5+ years of experience with medical writing and/or editing.
Knowledge of GRADE, evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews, principles of epidemiology and clinical research, statistical and analytical methods, and/or development of clinical practice guidelines.
Clearly communicates with effective verbal and written skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently with little supervision and also participate as member of a team who communicates and collaborates as appropriate with teammates and other stakeholders
Ability to interface cross-functionally between guidelines team and staff, volunteers, and external parties to build strong relationships/partnerships, manage projects successfully, and achieve goals of the guidelines program
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to meticulously manage a high volume of responsibility with professionalism and optimism
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects in various stages of development
Excellent attention to detail
Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates personal integrity in interactions with members, staff, and vendors
Ability to manage meetings of small groups (less than 30 persons)
Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other business tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Experience with Endnote, systematic review platforms (e.g., Covidence), and GRADEPro
Adapts to a variable workload and functions in a fast-paced environment
Supports a diverse and inclusive work environment
