AASA is looking for a Social Media Specialist to oversee the association’s communications with the public and AASA members by forming and implementing content strategies across AASA’s social media platforms. Duties include crafting compelling creative content, analyzing engagement data, identifying trends in customer interactions and planning digital campaigns to build community online.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years' experience in developing and executing social media strategies, creating engaging content and fostering community interaction. The successful candidate must be very "online" and possess a genuine passion for and desire to stay up to date on social media trends.
AASA is located in Alexandria, Va., just outside of our nations capital. Living in the DC/MD/VA area is not required since this is primarily a remote position. We are conveniently located just blocks from the King Street Metro station, which provides easy access from Ronald Reagan National Airport.

Starting salary for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
Develops & Executes Social Media Strategy
Develops and executes comprehensive social media strategies across all AASA social media channels (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram).
Sets strategy and manages brand voice and content for AASA’s Executive Director social media accounts.
Conducts research and stays updated with the latest trends to identify new opportunities for social media growth.
Manages Social Media Lounge at AASA’s annual national conference.
Plans and executes social media campaigns and promotions to boost brand visibility and engagement.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align social media activities with overall marketing initiatives.
Creates & Manages Social Media Content
Creates innovative, engaging and high-quality content for social media platforms, including copy, graphic, and video content.
Curates relevant and compelling content from various sources to share with AASA audience.
Schedules and publishes posts on different social media platforms, in accordance with best practices while ensuring consistency in branding and messaging.
Plans and develops a social media content calendar for relevant platforms (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram -to include Stories & Reels-, LinkedIn, YouTube, and future social platforms).
Fosters Community Engagement Through Social Media
Monitors social media channels for brand mentions and engages with the audience promptly and professionally.
Fosters meaningful relationships with followers, responds to comments and messages, and addresses inquiries and concerns effectively.
Works with volunteers to expand reach and creates engagement opportunities, by implementing social takeovers, initiating live sessions and chats, and identifying/cultivating brand ambassadors.
Provides Analytics & Reporting to Shape Strategy
Analyzes social media data and insights to track performance, identifies trends, and makes data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Prepares regular reports showcasing social media metrics and the impacts of social media efforts on overall business objectives.
Leverages measurement tools to provide progress reports and mine insights, while continually finding ways to improve on those metrics through testing and launching new initiatives.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, education or related discipline.
Experience: Three to five years of experience in developing and executing social media strategies, creating engaging content and fostering community interaction. Must be very “online” and possess a genuine passion for and desire to stay up to date on social media trends (more broadly, digital communications) and developments. Must excel at multitasking, attention to detail and time management across multiple time zones.
Skills: Excellent writing and proofreading skills. Proven experience with graphic design and video editing for social media. Demonstrable social networking experience, digital content strategy and social analytics tools knowledge. Adequate knowledge of conversion rate optimization and search engine optimization. Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels.
Physical Demands: Regular use of laptop computers and desktop monitors is common. Travel may be required and longer than normal hours of work at meetings and conferences may be expected.
