General Summary:
The Strategist, Communications & Content implements, measures and reports on various communications programs and media/public relations activities designed to inform internal/external audiences and enhance AMTA’s image. The Strategist, Communications & Content plays a key role in ensuring AMTA’s digital assets- email, website, mobile, and organic social presences are executed in alignment with the overall strategic goals of the association. This position serves as a writer of original content as needed, demonstrating the value of membership and positioning AMTA as the information resource in the massage therapy profession.
Responsibilities:
E-Communications—With the Manager, Communications & Content Strategy, drafts member emails including the monthly Hands On newsletter, online course promotions, and GR communications that reflect AMTA messaging priorities. Keeps up to date on email best practices and makes recommendations to optimize for effective engagement. Monitors open rates and click-throughs and identifies opportunities for content testing and measurement. Applies the style guide to make sure a consistent AMTA voice is reflected in our digital communications. Reports on e-communications performance.
Content Marketing/ Web—Serves as one of the authors of the website, developing evergreen, campaign-specific, and seasonal content for digital platforms in short and long format. The position will work closely with the Website Strategist to support e-strategy goals and in collaboration with the Manager, Communications & Content Strategy and the Marketing team to create content that’s desirable, functional and engaging and keeps SEO goals top of mind, while keeping a strong eye for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and web best practices.
Social Media- Shares responsibility for execution of social media calendar, including drafting posts, publishing, moderation and ongoing engagement. Works with Manager, Communications & Content Strategy to contribute diverse and engaging content to priority social media channels while ensuring consistent messaging and monitoring. Collaborates with the marketing team to generate content ideas that align with business goals and marketing campaigns that grow audience and engagement. Monitors and reports on social media performance. Responds to customer service inquiries, working with marketing and communications staff to develop and document messages and best practices.
Consumer Awareness and Outreach- Works with Manager, Communications & Content Strategy on execution of AMTA Consumer Awareness activities. Assists in arranging media interviews, project management, prepping speakers with AMTA branded and profession talking points. Works with reporters and tracks media placements. Contributes to the planning for the annual National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, providing member support and suggesting content strategy.
Maintain e-communications calendar. Collaborates with colleagues to plan for content that fits within AMTA’s publishing cadence for digital content and reflects best practices.
Tracks results from media response and ongoing consumer media coverage of AMTA, massage therapy, and other AMTA programs. Shares results with other staff as appropriate;
General Communications and Special Projects - Assists with writing and editing to make sure AMTA’s brand and voice are championed across communication pieces including PowerPoints, press releases, print pieces, images/infographics, research roundups and other deliverables. Works with the Manager, Communications & Content Strategy to write and edit the convention brochure content; collaborates with the marketing team on brochure layout and timeline.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills, and ability to demonstrate good newswriting and editing skills;
Ability to manage multiple priorities, handle pressure and meet deadlines;
Strong eye for detail including accuracy, grammar and punctuation;
Demonstrated project management planning experience in a communications or public relations environment;
Demonstrated knowledge and application of fundamental communications and public relations principles;
Knowledge and demonstrated application of emerging communications and public relations trends;
Experience in responding to national media inquiries and/or pitching stories to the media preferred.

Education and Experience:
A. degree required in preferably Communications, Journalism, or English;
Minimum 3 years project management experience in communications/PR/media relations;
Minimum 3 years of experience in an association and/ or non-profit environment working with volunteers preferred;
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
Experience working in a content management system (CMS) and an email service provider (ESP).
Comment:
This position may require some evening and weekend work. Must have the ability to travel.
