The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is the premier legal association in the state. As a voluntary organization, the Association’s primary focus is to help Illinois lawyers practice more efficiently by providing time and money-saving services, practice resources and continuing education. Among our numerous benefits of membership is the opportunity to join sections that focus on substantive areas of law or help with the business of law, and the opportunity to be appointed to and serve on standing committees that are authorized by the Board of Governors.
The ISBA is seeking outgoing professionals to serve as Section and Committee Staff Liaisons to act as facilitators for Association committees and section councils, administrative support to committee and section council chairs, and primary contact between those groups and professional Association staff. These positions also includes occasional special event planning, coordination, and management.
The ISBA operates on a hybrid schedule of working in-office a minimum of 2 days per week and the remaining days working from home, however, during the training period, there may be more time required in the office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepare, at the direction of the chair, committee/section council agendas and other informational items for council and committee meetings.
Assist in the planning, tracking, and execution section council or committee events.
Process section event registrations.
Monitor section/committee communities on ISBA Central.
Assist with CLE programs when necessary.
Participate on cross-departmental initiatives and teams to advance the organization’s strategic and operational priorities.
Maintain ongoing and regular communication with assigned section council and committee leadership.
Be familiar with each committee/section council scope and mission, its activities, and budget.
Be familiar with the Association’s strategic direction, policies, procedures, and initiatives to answer questions from committee/section council members and to help ensure that their activities are consistent with them.
Facilitate committee/section council meeting schedules, coordinate space needs and organize conference/Zoom calls.
Facilitate committee/section council activities by promptly referring proposals for Association action to appropriate professional staff or Association leadership.
Participate in-person or via conference/Zoom calls in committee/section council meetings.
In addition to attending the Annual and Mid-year meetings, attend periodic Saturday meetings of section councils and committees, and other designated Association activities.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to work with a team to achieve Association goals
Exhibit professionalism and courtesy always in dealing with the public, Association members, and other staff members
Ability to take initiative and possess a strong work ethic
Willingness to identify programmatic deficiencies or areas in which the Association can improve its operations or procedures
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, Adobe, Zoom and other means of electronic communication
REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree and prior relevant professional association experience or a bachelor's degree and 5 years professional business work experience is required.
