The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is seeking an Instructional Design Manager that supports the instructional design principles to enhance, expand and administer the AANS educational portfolio. This position will work with subject matter experts (SMEs) and staff to manage the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructionally sound, innovative and engaging content for virtual, distance-learning and blended educational delivery. The Manager will support AANS’ joint providership program by ensuring ACCME accreditation processes and related documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner. This job operates in a flexible work arrangement with an expectation to be onsite 2 days a week. A qualified candidate may also support projects that are comprised the Association (AANS), the Foundation (NREF) and the data registry arms (NPA).
JOB DUTIES:
Manages the project workflow and leads the design, implementation, revision and maintenance of virtual education course offerings.
Works directly with committees, work groups, course authors, SMEs, contractors and AANS staff to design and develop engaging online learning experiences that use accepted virtual learning concepts, instructional design principles, and apply adult learning theory.
Contributes to the development and improvement of the user interface, navigation, layout, and content for AANS Learning Management System (LMS), NeuroU.
Manages the planning, development, and implementation for assigned virtual and blended educational programs, including faculty selection, course content and learning objective development, collection of all learning materials; and coordinates activity evaluation.
Ensures proper documentation and compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) criteria for all assigned educational programs. Supports procurement of and adherence with CEU credits for applicable programs as needed.
Uses project management approaches to create and track detailed work plans and timelines to successfully implement educational programs. Monitoring routinely to ensure that projects adhere to established deadlines, milestones, budget and organizational policies.
Assists with the development of annual budgets and routinely monitors budgets of assigned programs. Works to ensure that programs meet revenue and expense goals.
Participates in other daily administrative and supports functions, including responding to telephone calls and requests and other general administrative tasks.
Performs other job related duties, as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree required. Instructional design, instructional technology or virtual instruction related degree, or an equivalent of related education and work experience preferred.
Minimum of 3 years related experience managing the design, development, delivery and evaluation of virtual education projects required.
Demonstrated ability to apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory. Experience with Articulate Storyline or Camtasia and learning management systems preferred. Experience in medical or health-care related learning preferred.
Knowledge of ACCME criteria, a plus.
Proven maturity in working with physicians / physician volunteers / healthcare professionals required.
Strong project management skills with ability to work within a collaborative environment and independently, coordinate workflow, determine priorities, meet deadlines and effectively balance competing demands.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to prepare quality documentation. Must pay close attention to detail and possess excellent analytical skills.
Strong technical acumen required with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with leading edge computer-based tools in the development and delivery of virtual education, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; knowledge of HTML, XML, and various internet applications preferred.
