IIF is seeking an experienced Director of Insurance and NBFI (Non-bank financial intermediation) Regulation and Policy. This role brings together policy research, regulatory engagement and advocacy, and collaboration with insurers and non-banks to influence how global standards are shaped and applied across these sectors. Our efforts promote a risk-based, proportionate, and effective regulatory framework that reflects the unique characteristics of the (re)insurance industry. Key areas of focus include prudential standards (including capital), systemic risk, recovery and resolution, climate-related risks, as well as governance, market conduct, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Analyze major global and regional insurance regulatory initiatives, including those from the IAIS, EIOPA, UK PRA, US NAIC, OSFI, and other relevant supervisory authorities. Similarly, in the NBFI space, initiatives from the FSB, IOSCO and other relevant bodies.
Monitor broader financial regulatory developments from institutions such as the Basel Committee, European Commission, EBA, ECB SSM, US SEC, Federal Reserve, and OCC, with a focus on their implications for the (re)insurance and non-bank sectors.
Draft policy briefings and reports, background documents, industry consultation responses, and consensus statements for IIF member institutions and internal use.
Provide timely and expert-level regulatory and policy advice to members, regulators, trade associations, and other key stakeholders.
Lead and facilitate meetings of IIF’s Insurance and NBFI Regulatory Committees, working and other cross-sectoral groups to develop and reflect consensus industry positions.
Organize and coordinate working group sessions, high-level policy dialogues, and insurance-focused events—including managing logistics, communications, and meeting materials.
Develop publications, social media updates, and engage with media outlets in order to carry out advocacy and communications efforts on behalf of the industry.
Support cross-departmental collaboration on insurance-related topics such as digital transformation, climate risk, systemic risk, capital standards, and recovery and resolution.
Graduate degree in finance, risk, law, economics, international studies or another relevant discipline from a leading university
At least ten years of professional experience in the financial sector, the regulatory/supervisory community or a trade association are required, with a significant portion of those in the insurance industry.
Strong current network of relationships in the industry and regulatory communities for insurance and non-banks.
Deep understanding of international insurance regulatory frameworks, current reform agendas, and supervisory trends.
